Case Study: Exceptional Christmas Team Building Away Day

Introduction: In the spirit of festive celebrations, our client organised a dynamic team-building away day to invigorate their workforce and promote a positive workplace culture. The event allowed employees to choose from four simultaneous activities, each contributing to a day filled with camaraderie, skill-building, and charitable giving.

Background: Understanding the significance of employee engagement and team cohesion, the company decided to create an unforgettable experience for their staff during the festive season. The unique twist was the integration of charitable elements into the team-building activities, aligning with the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility.

Event Structure: The away day was strategically planned to offer a diverse range of activities catering to different interests and skills. Employees were given the flexibility to choose one out of the four activities, ensuring a personalised and enjoyable experience for each participant.

  1. Charity Lego Presents:
    • Participants engaged in a Lego building challenge with a charitable twist.
    • Teams collaboratively constructed Lego presents, and the completed creations were donated to Acorns Children’s Hospice, bringing joy to children in need.
  2. Charity All Hands:
    • A heartfelt activity where employees assembled prosthetic hands for individuals in need.
    • We partnered with a charitable organisation to send all built prosthetic hands to a children and adults who had lost a limb in a developing countries across the world.
  3. Charity Bake Off:
    • Teams unleashed their creativity in a friendly cake-making competition.
    • The delicious treats were packaged into hampers and delivered to local charities Julia’s House, and the Bournemouth NHS Trust .
  4. Crystal Maze:
    • A thrilling and immersive team-building experience, drawing inspiration from the popular TV show.
    • Teams faced challenges that tested their problem-solving skills and teamwork, fostering a sense of achievement and collaboration.

Feedback and Future Plans: The company received exceptional feedback from employees, saying how much they especially loved the Christmas team building away day for the engaging and meaningful experience. The success of the away day has prompted the company to plan a similar event next year, building on the positive momentum. The combination of fun activities and charitable contributions not only strengthened the team, but reinforced the company’s commitment to making a positive impact in the community – especially benefiting Acorns Children’s Hospice, Julia’s House, and the Bournemouth NHS Trust.

Many thanks to Neil and Ruth for leading our virtual team building exercise... Many laughs were had while scrambling to collect the twenty items...!!! The Murder Mystery was my favourite and my team winning was the icing on the cake. The Haka showed how uncoordinated we are but the laughs ...just proves what an enjoyable experience we all had.
