Virtual team building event for over 500 global employees for Reckitt Benckiser Health.  Designed to create team bonding and laughter

Reckitt Benckiser Health contacted EML Team asking us to help create a virtual event which would give employees from across the globe – from the USA, India, Australia and Thailand to South Africa, UAE and the UK a chance to ‘virtually’ meet up for a few hours of team activities.

Finding the Purpose

We took our client through our 5 step process to tailor an event to their unique needs. Our consultants identified 3 key areas of focus for their event:

1. Inclusivity: The event needed to be inclusive of the different cultures within the company’s employee base, being sensitive to the cultural requirements and ensuring the activities weren’t too country biased.
2. Bonding: It was very much an event to bring people together.
3. Context: To understand the need to communicate and listen, but also have fun.

Tailoring the Event

Based on Reckitt Benckiser’s requirements, 3 of our most popular virtual team challenges – CSI, Zin Zan and Bingo were tailored to meet the international audience thus meeting requirement 1.

We also created the challenges to be lightly competitive but not too hard to enable everyone to have fun and network with one another. Through the week a rolling total of scores was also kept allowing us to easily identify the top scoring teams for the week – for a little competitive edge. This met requirement 2.

We chose experienced EML Team presenters to contextualise the session. This met requirement 3.

Delivering the Team Building Event

Using MS Teams and a dedicated IT support expert, the guests were welcomed by our experienced EML facilitators and briefed on the upcoming activities.

Due to time difference, EML Team worked at different times of both the day and night, hosting over separate events over a 4 day period from 30 November to 4 December 2020.

Countries within the same time zone, would join the event for 3 hours and compete against each other to each points, each group had their own EML facilitator who was able to assist with any questions and give tips where needed.  Our Team challenge events proved extremely popular and were understood across cultures.

Successful Outcome

The event was a great success, everyone who took part enjoyed the challenges and were able to ‘virtually’ catch up with colleague in a more social environment. Our client was delighted with the outcome.
