London Bus Treasure Hunt for Acumen

Vintage London Bus Treasure Hunt for Acumen for a global non-profit organisation.

Acumen contacted EML Team asking us to help create an event which would give the global employees attending a London based conference, the chance to look at London in a different way, discovering hidden gems, noticing landmarks (a little out of the ordinary) and testing their knowledge of the UK’s capital city.

Finding the Purpose

We took our client through our 5 step process to tailor an event to their unique needs. Our consultants identified 3 key areas of focus for their event:

  1. Inclusivity: The event needed to be inclusive of the broad spectrum of cultural and economic backgrounds represented by Acumen’s employees.
  2. Bonding: It needed to encourage the participants to work together as a team.
  3. Context: To understand the need to communicate and listen.

Tailoring the Event

In line with Acumen’s required brief, our Vintage London Bus Treasure Hunt was perfect.  It met all the criteria required, giving the 4 teams a wide range of challenges from creating the company name using their bodies, taking set photographs, buying Christmas gifts, and postcards of New York (!), to answering London themed questions and hunting out hidden locations. It was decided very early on to make this a booklet based session rather than just using an iPad so that everyone could be included… and all in the comfort of their very own private Routemaster London Bus – thus meeting requirement 1.

We also created challenges to be lightly competitive but not too hard to enable everyone to have fun and network with one another. This met requirement 2.

We chose an experienced EML:Team lead presenter to contextualise the session. This met requirement 3.

Delivering the Team Building Event

Our experienced EML Team arrived at the Corinthia Hotel in central London where the event was due to start from and was ready to give a full briefing to everyone.  Then everyone headed outside to meet the bus and the adventure began.  ‘Take a photo of a smiling traffic warden, strike a pose outside the Houses of Parliament, buy a tacky souvenir and crack a code! Were just some of the fun tasks.

Throughout the event, our EML Team were able to offer tips and clues and make sure everyone was back on the bus before heading off to the next location.  The event ended at a restaurant where the winning team was announced.

Successful Outcome

Everyone who took part in this event thoroughly enjoyed the challenges and the chance to interact with colleagues. Acumen was delighted with the outcome.

Many thanks to Neil and Ruth for leading our virtual team building exercise... Many laughs were had while scrambling to collect the twenty items...!!! The Murder Mystery was my favourite and my team winning was the icing on the cake. The Haka showed how uncoordinated we are but the laughs ...just proves what an enjoyable experience we all had.
