Deloitte asked us to create an outdoor team building activity for their VAT analyst academy graduates. The event needed to encourage over 250 graduates to work together as a large group split into separate teams around a series of physical and mental team challenges over a 3 hour period. The venue was a large field at Warwick University.
We took our client through our 5 step process to tailor an event to their unique needs. Our consultants identified 3 key areas of focus for their event:
To meet the brief, we decided to build a Team Challenge event with a Water Balloon Catapult finale. Deloitte chose the challenge games to ensure they were suitable for all graduate backgrounds, thus meeting requirement 1. We also designed the games to be lightly competitive but not too rigorous to enable participants to have fun and network with one another. This met requirement 2.
Since we deliver lots of graduate programmes for corporate clients, we chose an experienced EML Team lead presenter to contextualise the session as well as ensuring that the session met and contextualised ‘Business Chemistry’ – a training tool that Deloitte use with regards to insights about individuals and teams based on observable traits and preferences. This met requirement 3.
We arrived several hours before the event to meet the client and set up the Team Challenges. By the time we were finished the Frisbee field at Warwick University looked incredible and our facilitators were in position and ready to go! As everyone arrived through the gap in the hedge, they all said ‘Wow’ when they saw 9 Team Challenge stations set up with 5 different challenges on each station.
As the sun shone, everyone started their challenges, each Team Challenge station had an experienced EML team facilitator guiding them through the challenges, offering little tips when needed. Deloitte also had a faculty member observing the teams to document how they worked together, communicated and came to make decisions etc.
The Team Challenge event was delivered flawlessly and the Water Balloon Catapult finale was just the perfect way to end what was a very warm September afternoon.
Everyone who took part in this event had fun after a very long week of business presentations and the organisers from Deloitte were of course delighted with the session and outcome.
“Thank you for yesterday, it was lovely to meet you both, and it was a great day. Lots of positive feedback and I think we really took a lot away, especially from the MBTI. We’re currently trying to find a space to hang our artistic masterpiece!”
